The Midnight Kiss

The Midnight Kiss

She squeezed harder, ignoring the pain tearing across her waist and legs. Half her body was already outside when the bathroom door finally cracked open.

“Sarah!” the old man roared.

She didn’t look back.

With one final push, she fell out of the window and landed hard outside in the muddy backyard.

Pain shot through her ankle, but adrenaline pushed her forward.

She ran barefoot into the dark street, wearing only her oversized night shirt, crying and screaming for help.

Lights came on in nearby houses.

Dogs barked loudly.

A woman from across the street opened her gate in shock.

“My God! What happened to you?”

Sarah collapsed into the woman’s arms.

“They tried to…” she sobbed uncontrollably. “My husband and his father…”

The woman quickly covered Sarah with a wrapper and pulled her inside the house.

Minutes later, neighbors gathered outside while someone called the police.

But before the police arrived, a black SUV suddenly appeared at the end of the street.

Sarah looked through the window and her blood ran cold.

It was her husband.

And he was not alone.
